    1. Auto tagging based on Content

      This would be a killer app if it would recognize scanned documents based on what it learned. It can learn bank statements, bills and company logo's. It can also grab dates from scanned documents.
      With this information it will recognize a scanned document that hits the inbox and automatically add tags.
      Example: Verizon, bill, phone, march, 2011
      I have to approve or update these before they move to the 'big pile'.

      • Provide the ability to move document repository to the Amazon Cloud

        Or offer an API where different document repository providers could be plugged in giving the ability to store the documents on different mediums.

        • Version Control

          There needs to be away of importing a new version of a document and to be able to write comments for each version to be able to track changes to the document. You also need to be able to pull up and open past versions. Version control is one of the most important features of a document management software. I would definitely buy this software if it had some form of version control.

          • Online backup service

            It would be nice if eDoc provided an online (off site) backup service. This way I wouldn't have to mess with creating multiple backups on different hard drives or network locations.

            As an alternative you can also integrate with popular online backup services like DropBox, Carbonite, etc.

              Once I setup a filter on the organizer by selecting a few tags I would like any document imported either by dragging and dropping or scanned to automatically be imported with these tags. IE. if I have a tag selected for "Expenses" and "2010" and "May" any document imported by any method automatically gets these tags.

                    I like QuickBooks. It's an ecellent accounting package. I know that this would be a proprietary feature, but I'm looking for something which would allow me to easily tag entries in QuickBooks with a scanned document - an invoice, for instance.

                      Option to have a document preview pane window in the main layout for those who for whatever reason don't want this feature..

                      Example of a current workflow

                      - Click on Advanced search, because the regular search is nonsense.

                      - Double click on a result

                      - Window pops up with document for preview

                      - Close window

                      - Look for another file.

                      With a preview window you can quickly go through your results...

                      • Build a product that'll kill NeatReciepts

                        NeatReceipts fills a common need for lots of traveling business people who need to scan receipts and prepare expense reports. There software is really really bad from both a user experience and technical implementation perspective. There's a market opportunity here. I certainly wish I could find a product that could tackle this specific use well.

                          Thank you for the suggestion Jeff and your comments Judy and Kim. Although, having never used Neat Reciepts myself I am at a loss in terms of concrete actions that the eDoc Organizer development team can take to make the product a better replacement for Neat Reciepts.

                          I would appreciate it if everybody interested in this suggestion can provide more details or specifics features that Neat Reciepts has that we should investigate adding to eDoc Organizer.

                            • Start OCR as soon as scanning completes

                              OCR can take some time, depending on the size of the job. Scanning lots of documents could be accelerated if OCR commenced immediately upon completing the scan, rather than waiting on user input to "Save and New" or "Save and Close" etc. If the scan is deleted or repeated by the user, I'm sure the computer won't mind the wasted OCR effort, but workflows will be faster.

                                The name/ID can be used in other documents to reference eDoc-documents.
                                Also the ID can be written on the scanned paperdocument with pen to create a link between digital and physical world.

                                    • Add fields for action dates and destruction dates with search capability and reminders

                                      These features would go a long way to making paperless a more viable option. Often a document is received which needs action at a future date (e.g. an invoice). Even if it is scanned, the hard copy is kept around as a reminder to deal with it at some time in the future. If there were reminders (which worked with task managers such as Outlook even) which prompted some action for a particular document, the hard copy could be discarded right away.

                                        • Add Recycle Bin type functionality to eDoc Organizer

                                          If a user accidentally deletes a file from eDoc Organizer, there is no way to recover it. At the very least eDoc Organizer should send the file to the computer's recycle bin so that it can be recovered. It would be even great if a recycle bin type feature could be added to eDoc Organizer so that you can recover the labels, comments and other attributes of the file as well.
